YouTubers Built a Trojan Horse to Sneak Into The Odyssey

One Ticket, Three People, One Very Large Horse

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has been in theaters for about five minutes, and the internet is already doing what the internet does. YouTube group FullSquad, apparently inspired by the film’s own subject matter, built a DIY Trojan Horse and attempted to smuggle two of their members into an AMC Cinema screening with just a single ticket between three people. The whole thing was captured on video and shared online, and yes, it goes about as well as you’d expect, which is to say almost brilliantly and then not at all.

The video opens with the group casually acknowledging the obvious problem: one ticket, three people. Their solution, naturally, was to stuff two of them inside a homemade wooden horse while the third pulled it along. Before even reaching the theater, they were already parading the contraption around outside, peeling back its side panel to cheerfully reveal the stowaways to random passersby on the street. Subtle.

They Actually Made It Pretty Far

Here is where the story gets genuinely impressive. When they arrived at the AMC, their single ticket was scanned without incident. They then made it through not one but two separate sets of employees while two grown adults were crouched inside a horse. For a moment, they believed they had pulled it off. They were celebrating, heading toward the screen, feeling very clever about the whole thing.

Then the horse turned a corner and toppled over.

A security guard materialized at the scene of the wreckage and delivered the verdict: “You guys can’t bring this in unfortunately.” Another employee arrived, asked whether they had tickets, assessed the situation, and landed on what might be the most gracious possible response to finding a collapsed homemade Trojan Horse in your theater hallway. “I respect this,” he said.

That single sentence might be the most earned compliment FullSquad could have hoped for.

The Bit Actually Fits the Movie

What makes this particular stunt land is that it is not a random gimmick. The Odyssey depicts the Trojan War, which is of course where the whole Trojan Horse idea originates. The Greeks hid soldiers inside a giant wooden horse to breach the walls of Troy, and it worked. FullSquad hid two YouTubers inside a giant wooden horse to breach the walls of an AMC multiplex, and it almost worked, which is honestly a respectable conversion rate.

Nolan’s film has generated plenty of its own conversation since release, including the director discussing his decision to cast Travis Scott in the project, his choice to give all the characters American accents, and why the finished film runs shorter than Oppenheimer. Now it can also claim ownership of a minor viral moment involving a structural failure in a theater corridor.

FullSquad did not get into the movie for free. But they did get a security guard to say he respected them, and depending on how you count, that might be worth more.
