Palworld Just Left Early Access, and the 1.0 Patch Notes Ran 27 Pages
Palworld hit version 1.0 on July 10, opening the World Tree endgame, adding dozens of Pals, and landing on PS5. A rundown of what's new and whether it's worth a return trip.
Palworld arrived in early 2024 as the game everyone had an opinion about, sold an enormous number of copies, and then did the thing a lot of breakout hits don’t: it kept going. On July 10, 2026, it finally left Early Access with version 1.0, and the patch notes ran to 27 pages. That length is a decent summary of the update’s ambition.
It also landed on PS5 the same day, opening the door to a whole platform of players who’d only watched from the sidelines.
The World Tree finally opens
The centerpiece of 1.0 is the World Tree. It’s been visible on the horizon of the Palpagos Islands since launch, walled off behind a red barrier that players couldn’t cross. With the full release, that barrier drops and the region around the tree becomes the game’s primary endgame zone.
The scale of it is the headline. Multiple outlets report the additions roughly double the size of the map, though that’s an estimate rather than an official figure, so take the “double” with a grain of salt. Either way, it’s a substantial new chunk of world aimed squarely at players who’d already exhausted the original map.
More Pals, and new ways to power them up
Version 1.0 adds 72 Pals in total, made up of 47 brand-new creatures and 25 variants, pushing the roster to 287. That’s a lot of new companions to catch, breed, and build teams around.
Two new systems give those Pals more depth. Awakening lets you strengthen a Pal beyond its normal ceiling using Radiant Gems gathered from the depths of the World Tree region, a clear endgame chase for anyone who wants to push a favorite creature as far as it’ll go. Mutation folds into the breeding system, giving a small chance that a bred Pal comes out stronger than the usual result. Together they add a layer of long-term optimization that the game didn’t have before, which is exactly what an endgame needs.
Quality-of-life that changes how you play
One addition stands out as more than a number on a list. The Wing Pack is a new gear item that lets your character glide and fly without mounting a flying Pal. The clever part is that it uses an equipment slot rather than a party slot, so you can soar around the map while still carrying a full five-Pal combat team. Anyone who’s ever had to choose between mobility and a full roster will understand why that’s a genuine relief.
The update also reworks tower bosses to feel more dynamic, and gives the Wildlife Sanctuaries and No-Hunting Zones a significant overhaul. These are the kinds of changes that don’t make trailers but do make the world feel less static on a return visit.
Should you jump back in?
If you own Palworld, the value question is easy: 1.0 is a free update, with no premium edition or extra purchase gating the new content. You already have access.
The wrinkle is the save question. Your existing world and Pals carry over, so nothing is lost. But the studio recommends starting fresh to experience the reworked systems and new content the way they were designed. That’s a real decision. A veteran with hundreds of hours invested may not want to rebuild, while a lapsed player who drifted away months ago has little reason not to start clean and see the full arc.
For newcomers, especially the PS5 crowd getting their first crack at it, this is the version to start on. A finished game with a full endgame is a very different proposition than the Early Access build that made headlines two years ago.
Plenty of Early Access hits never reach a real 1.0. Palworld not only got there, it showed up with a genuinely large update rather than a quiet flag-planting. Whether you return depends on how much of the original you’d already seen, but the game you’d be returning to is meaningfully bigger than the one you left.
