Xbox Wire dropped its weekly roundup on July 17, laying out the games headed to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass between July 20 and July 24. The lineup is a genuinely eclectic one: a hand-drawn fighting game rooted in an beloved animated franchise, a chill-meets-survival terraforming sandbox, a gas station management sim with a murderous twist, and a retro shooter from a trio of publishers with serious old-school credentials.

Avatar Legends Brings the Bending to Xbox on July 23

The headliner is probably Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, published by PM-Studios and arriving July 23. According to Xbox Wire, the game features hand-drawn 2D animation intended to stay faithful to the animated series and includes 12 playable characters. Modes span Offline and Online Versus, Story, Arcade, Training, Spectator, and an Art Gallery, which suggests the developers are going for something more than a bare-bones brawler.

That means surviving the early chaos, gathering resources, constructing a base, building machines to heat the planet, manufacturing an oxygen-rich atmosphere, and eventually reshaping the entire world through geo-engineering.

Xbox Wire describes it as a “chill experience,” though surviving a barren death planet perhaps has its tense moments. This Gas Station Will Absolutely Try to Kill You

Shift At Midnight, from developer Kwalee, arrives July 22 on Game Pass. On the surface it is a late-night convenience store management game: restock shelves, hit your sales quota, take deliveries, keep the place tidy. Standard stuff.

Except some of your customers are doppelgangers. Miss one, and it comes back during your shift to kill you and your coworkers. Xbox Wire is direct about the solution: “Execute on site if you think they are not human — just be sure to clean up after.” That last detail about cleaning up is doing a lot of work. The game is Optimized for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Play Anywhere.

CULTIC Brings Retro Shooter Energy on July 23

Rounding out the week is CULTIC, published by Atari, Infogrames, and 3D Realms, also launching July 23. The game is listed at $19.99 with a pre-order price of $17.99, and Xbox Wire notes it is Optimized for Xbox Series X|S. The combination of 3D Realms and a discounted retro aesthetic suggests this one is squarely aimed at players who still hold a torch for the golden era of PC shooters.
