The Survey That Started Everything

Fortnite has a long habit of running player surveys to take the temperature on potential crossovers, and those surveys have a long habit of leaking. The latest one to surface includes a name that got a lot of people talking: Palworld.

Leaker HYPEX shared the find on July 20, revealing that Epic Games had added Palworld to an in-game survey asking players which titles they had played in the previous two weeks. As Dexerto notes, appearing in one of these surveys does not guarantee a crossover will actually happen. Epic uses them to measure interest broadly, and plenty of games have shown up in similar polls without ever getting a Fortnite skin. Still, it is the kind of detail that tends to send fan communities into overdrive.

This one was no different. And then Pocketpair made it considerably worse, in the best possible way.

Bucky Adds Some Very Strategic Fuel

The day after the survey started circulating, John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s publishing and communications lead, posted a question to fans on social media. The post, reported by Dexerto, asked which of Palworld 1.0’s new creatures fans would want to see turned into a Fortnite outfit.

The phrasing was a masterclass in plausible deniability. “Theoretically, hypothetically, conceptually, and spiritually,” Bucky wrote, adding that there was “absolutely no promise” the idea would ever be realized or come to fruition.

He used the word “if” in capital letters. Twice.

Nobody who reads that post walks away thinking Bucky just woke up that morning with a random hypothetical. The timing, layered on top of the leaked survey, immediately fired up fan speculation about a formal Palworld x Fortnite collaboration. Bucky’s careful hedging did nothing to cool it down. If anything, the elaborate disclaimer structure only made people more convinced something is in the works.

A Relationship That Has Been Building

This is not the first time the two studios have publicly flirted with the idea. According to Dexerto, back in January 2026, Fortnite gameplay producer Robby Williams publicly praised Palworld, and Bucky responded with language that hinted at openness to a collaboration. That earlier exchange did not lead to any announced partnership, but it established that at least some goodwill exists between the two sides.

The timing of the current moment adds some context. Palworld’s 1.0 launch brought the game roaring back. The title climbed to nearly 962,000 concurrent players on Steam during its second weekend after the full release, as reported by Dexerto. That number sits well below the record of more than 2.1 million concurrent players the game hit back in 2024, but it still represents one of the biggest peaks the game has seen since its original early-access debut. Palworld is, once again, a game that a lot of people are actively playing.

For Epic, that is exactly the kind of momentum that makes a crossover attractive. Fortnite collaborations tend to work best when both properties are hot at the same time, and right now Palworld has the player numbers to justify the conversation.

What Fans Actually Want

Bucky’s post asking fans to pick their preferred 1.0 Pal for a hypothetical skin did its job. Responses poured in with creature suggestions and outfit concepts, doing the community engagement work while keeping the studio technically uncommitted to anything.

Whether a Palworld skin ever materializes inside Fortnite remains genuinely unknown. Epic has not confirmed anything, and Pocketpair’s official position is that there is absolutely no promise here. But between a leaked survey, a January exchange between developers, and a communications lead asking fans to essentially design the crossover themselves, the circumstantial case has never been stronger.
