A Clean Sweep to Open a New Chapter

HEROIC arrived in Barcelona with a lot to prove. Two new players, a new head coach, and exactly zero matches played together as a unit. They left with a trophy.

The Norwegian organization claimed Stake Ranked Episode 3 on Saturday, July 18, finishing off K27 3-0 in the grand final to complete an undefeated run through an eight-team double-elimination bracket. The $100,000 event, held in Barcelona, served as the competitive debut for HEROIC’s reshuffled roster, and by any measure, the debut went well.

nilo Carries the Flag, Chr1zN Shines in the Final

It was the team’s longest-tenured player, Linus “nilo” Bergman, who anchored the squad across the whole event, finishing with a 1.19 rating over the tournament’s run, according to HLTV. But in the grand final against K27, IGL Christoffer “Chr1zN” Storgaard was the standout performer, posting a 1.45 rating across three maps with 99.1 ADR and an 80 percent KAST.

HEROIC swept Nuke 13-9, Mirage 13-11, and Dust2 13-11 to close it out. The maps were tighter than the 3-0 suggests. K27 clawed back from 10-2 down on Mirage and came within a few rounds of pushing the series to a fourth map after holding an 11-7 lead on Dust2 before the wheels came off.

“This is a more fitted team, so to speak,” Chr1zN said after the match. “The roles fit, and that is going to do a lot. Everyone has been putting in an enormous amount of work with the short time we’ve had. Throughout this event, the mindset has been fantastic from everyone.”

New addition Ludvig “Brollan” Brolin, brought in from the offseason alongside Antonio “MartinezSa” Martinez to replace Yasin “xfl0ud” Koc and Simon “yxngstxr” Boije, had a quieter final with a 0.83 rating, though his impact across the wider week contributed to the run. MartinezSa was a bright spot in the decider at 1.16.

K27 Made Them Work for It

Credit where it is due: K27 earned their spot in the final the hard way. The young Russian side survived four consecutive elimination matches, including a three-map comeback win over Ninjas in Pyjamas on the final day just to reach the grand final. That resilience is notable given this was only their second international LAN, and they were doing it without regular player Timur “clax” Sabirov, relying on stand-in Aleksandr “shalfey” Marenov throughout.

For K27, qw1nk1 led the team in the final with a 1.17 rating, but the deficit in firepower across the lineup showed against a HEROIC side that was clicking.

HEROIC’s Road Through Barcelona

HEROIC’s path to the title was genuinely convincing. They opened the event on July 15 with a 2-1 win over 3DMAX, then topped Phantom 2-1 the following day. A 2-1 victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas on July 17 sent them straight to the grand final, and then came the sweep of K27 to seal it.

Former academy coach Joonas “doto” Forss, handed the head coaching reins after the offseason changes, now has a tournament win to show for his first event in the senior role.

The result moves HEROIC up ten spots in the global VRS standings to 27th. That ranking boost arrives at a useful moment, as the team heads into a busy week that includes matches in a closed qualifier. The foundation looks solid. Now comes the test of whether this group can sustain the momentum against deeper competition.
