Arkheron Closed Beta Opens for Xbox Insiders Through July 27
Bonfire Studios has opened a limited technical test of its debut title Arkheron to Xbox Insider members on Series X, Series S, and Windows PC, running through midnight PT on July 27.
A Small Studio Opens a Big Door
Bonfire Studios describes itself as a small team of industry veterans, and Arkheron is their first game. As of July 22, it is also their first public test. The studio has opened a Closed Beta to members of the Xbox Insider Program, with access available on Xbox Series X, Series S, and Windows PC. The test window is short: it closes at midnight PT on July 27.
The post, written by Tim, an Xbox Program Manager, is upfront about what this is and is not. “Closed Beta is a technical test,” it reads, “so expect some bugs and active updates from the dev team.” That kind of candor tends to set healthier expectations than a polished marketing rollout, and it fits the spirit of an Insider playtest.
What Arkheron Actually Is
At its core, Arkheron is a fast-paced PvP game built around three-person teams. The hook is that there are no fixed classes. Instead, the items you collect during a match define how you play, how you support teammates, and how you respond to opponents. Your build is not chosen from a menu before the game starts. It emerges from what you find and carry.
Two modes are available during the beta. Spires is the more accessible of the two: a 3v3 arena format designed for quick build experimentation and getting comfortable with the combat system. It is available throughout the entire test period.
Ascension is the bigger swing. Fifteen teams of three explore a larger map, looting items to build out their kits and upgrading as they go. The goal is to fight toward the top of the Tower and reach a final 3v3 confrontation. Bonfire describes Ascension as the game’s peak competitive mode. Because it is more demanding to run at scale, it will only be available during limited regional windows on weekends. The studio has posted a full schedule for those sessions.
Cosmetic Progression and Prestige Rewards
The beta also serves as Bonfire’s first test of its cosmetic progression system. Players earn Pages by doing most of the things the game asks of them: opening chests, defeating monsters, completing Challenge Rifts, and ascending the Tower. Those Pages can be spent on Prestige items that are exclusive to the playtest.
The studio confirmed that Prestige items earned now will remain on your account permanently, even after the beta ends. For players who put in time during a short, buggy technical window, that is a reasonable acknowledgment of their contribution.
How to Get In
Joining is straightforward if you already use the Xbox Insider Hub. On Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC, open the app, head to Previews, find Arkheron Insider, and select Join. If you do not have the Insider Hub installed, it is available through the Microsoft Store. Once registration processes, the app will direct you to install the game.
Bonfire is asking participants to share feedback on combat feel, controls, performance, onboarding, and matchmaking. For a studio shipping its first title, a technically honest beta with a tight feedback loop is exactly the kind of foundation that separates teams who learn from playtests from teams who just run them.
