The Big One: Halo Gets a Proper Remake

Xbox Wire’s weekly lineup preview for July 27 through 31 is headlined by something fans have been waiting a long time to see: a full-blown modernized remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign. According to Xbox Wire, Halo: Campaign Evolved arrives July 28 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Game Pass.

This is not a remaster with a filter slapped on top. Xbox Wire describes the game as a “faithful yet modernized remake” featuring high-definition visuals, updated cinematics, and refined controls. The campaign also includes three brand-new prequel missions starring the Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson, which is the kind of addition that will have longtime fans paying close attention. A broader range of weapons, vehicles, and enemies round out the content, along with “Skulls,” optional gameplay modifiers that alter combat in various ways and are described by Xbox Wire as adding fresh tactics and replayability.

The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99 and the Premium Edition at $69.99, per Xbox Wire. Players who pre-purchase either version will receive the Foundry Armory Pack, which includes new looks for Master Chief’s Mark V Mjolnir armor. The game is also an Xbox Play Anywhere title, meaning a single purchase covers both console and PC.

A Superhero Comedy With Serious Creative Pedigree

The week’s other notable arrival is Dispatch, from developer AdHoc Studio, landing July 29. Xbox Wire points out that the game comes from the writers and directors behind Tales from the Borderlands and The Wolf Among Us, two of the most beloved narrative games of the last decade. That context matters.

You play as Robert Robertson, better known as Mecha Man, whose mech-suit is destroyed in a fight against his nemesis. Without his suit, Robertson is forced to take a desk job at a superhero dispatch center, not as a hero but as the person coordinating them. The setup immediately recalls the premise of a workplace sitcom, set in modern-day Los Angeles, and Xbox Wire leans into that framing by calling it a “superhero workplace comedy.” Your job is managing a roster of ex-supervillains through rehabilitation while navigating office relationships and quietly rebuilding your suit for a shot at revenge. Dispatch is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and is an Xbox Play Anywhere title.

Survival in a World Without Gods

Rounding out the week is Mistfall Hunter from Skystone Games, also releasing July 29. As described by Xbox Wire, the premise drops players into a bleak world where the gods have fallen and a force called the Gyldenmist is consuming everything. Revived by a mysterious girl named Dew, your character must scavenge, fight, and extract in a brutal survival loop, harvesting something called Gyldenblood to repair a shattered Web of Fate.

Mistfall Hunter is available through Game Pass, optimized for Xbox Series X|S, and carries the Xbox Play Anywhere designation as well.

A Week Worth Noting

Three games, three wildly different vibes. Halo: Campaign Evolved is the obvious anchor, but the combination of a narrative superhero comedy from seasoned writers and a grim survival extraction title gives Xbox’s last week of July some genuine range. The Halo remake in particular carries real weight: rebuilding Combat Evolved’s campaign with new prequel content and modern visuals is exactly the kind of project that could introduce the series to a new generation while giving longtime players something genuinely new to chew on. Game Pass inclusion across two of the three titles makes the week easier to commit to without pulling out a wallet.
