A Meaty Update Across the Board

Aspyr has pushed out a substantial update for Rise of the Tomb Raider on Switch 2, bringing the game to version 1.0.2. According to Nintendo Life, the patch is available right now and targets a long list of performance issues, crashes, visual glitches, and at least one sneaky gameplay exploit that players had apparently been taking advantage of in the Soviet Installation.

The update covers a lot of ground. Frame rate fixes alone span half a dozen locations, from the Siberian Wilderness to the Baths of Kitezh to the Geothermal Valley, which was apparently a recurring offender. Aspyr also addressed stutters and drops tied to specific cinematics, including a hiccup at the start of the “Find Your Way Up the Mountains to the Observatory” cutscene and two separate performance dips during an Acropolis mission sequence. Even fast travel was not immune, with a framerate issue occurring when players traveled from Whirlpool Sanctuary to Riverside Landing now reportedly resolved.

Crashes, Exploits, and Floating Cabbages

On the stability side, the patch fixes a client-side crash in multiplayer Endurance mode that triggered when players hit the “Ready” button before game cards finished loading. There was also lag when launching any Expedition mode that has now been addressed.

The gameplay fixes are where things get a little more specific. A bug with the Holy Fire Card in Expeditions mode meant that stealth-eliminating an enemy did not spread fire ignition damage to nearby opponents the way it should have. That has been corrected. Separately, an issue with Endurance Outfit Cards was causing the Revolver and Pump-Action Shotgun to appear in the Basecamp menu before players had actually earned them.

The visual fixes, meanwhile, cover everything from Lara’s satchel occasionally disappearing to a barricade in the Geothermal Valley only rendering from one side, to a white canister in the Copper Mill that was somehow invisible entirely. In the Prophet’s Tomb, water in the lower sections was also going transparent. Most charming of all: floating cabbages in the Acropolis have been grounded. The Baba Yaga DLC also got attention, with ropes on environmental beams no longer culling out of view.

Where the Game Stands

For players still deciding whether to pick this one up, Nintendo Life reviewed Rise of the Tomb Raider on Switch 2 and gave it an 8 out of 10. The publication praised its well-paced narrative, satisfying tombs, and sense of exploration, calling it “a great addition to the Switch 2 library” and “a strong example of the vision of the platform offering full-fat home console gaming on the go.” The review noted that the game runs at a smooth 30fps and delivers “satisfying exploration, incredible visuals, and loads of content,” while flagging a forgettable story and occasionally wonky controls as minor drawbacks.

With version 1.0.2 now live, those performance rough edges that remained at launch look considerably smoother. The patch addresses issues across nearly every corner of the game, which suggests Aspyr has been paying close attention to how players are actually moving through it. Whether you are replaying post-story content in the Siberian Wilderness or grinding Endurance mode with friends, the experience should hold up more consistently now.
